Developing the Design

The design process might be imagined as a series of decreasingly smaller ‘funnels’ where an initially wider range of ideas are refined down to a preferred point. This might take the form of three different ideas for comparison. The design development assumes a linear progression of refinement in two main feedback iterations.

This flowchart works well for the vast majority of projects and assumes a smooth progression of narrowing down the options. Where there are major late design changes, widening the scope again , these can generate additional work and incur additional charges beyond the original agreed scope.
